Dear neighbor
I'm a third-generation South San Francisco resident from a union family. I attended Martin Elementary, Parkway Heights, and South San Francisco High School. The grit and tenacity that put my name in the high school gymnasium for basketball and the theater for dance are what I’ll use to confront our affordability crisis, close the city budget deficit, and ensure our streets are safe.
I earned my Bachelor’s from UC Berkeley, Master’s in Urban Planning from the University of Arizona, and returned home prepared to serve. As a Certified Associate Planner for Woodside, I draft flexible land use laws, present new affordable housing and economic development projects, and ensure projects meet the needs of the community.
I proudly serve on the South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Commission. I pushed for more trees and landmarks in our parks, and insisted on coordinating events with public transportation and increasing community outreach.
With skyrocketing costs of groceries, rent, and more, South City deserves a courageous, experienced leader who will make tough decisions and protect core city services. I’ll work to unite our community to deliver creative solutions for affordable homes, traffic congestion, and street safety.
I reject corporate and private developer campaign contributions because I want to be a candidate for the people and by the people.
Sincerely,
Melanie Olson
