South City Roots
South City strength
Welcome!
I’m melanie Olson.
I’m a third-generation South San Franciscan. I was born in South City and come from a working-class, union family. I was raised here, and I want to stay here to build my own family. But that’s easier said than done, and it's been getting harder my whole life. Every day, it has become clearer that if I want to stay in the South City I love, I have to fight for it.
That’s why I decided to become a city planner, so I could I learn how to build strong, resilient communities, and bring those skills back home. This is why I launched South City for Homes, a resident-first coalition that pushes forward much needed housing projects. It’s why I joined the SSF Parks and Rec Commission to bring us better services and greener spaces… And it’s why I’m running to be the next representative for the South San Francisco City Council for District 3!
I’ll bring affordability, safe streets, universal childcare, and all the things that make our city a place where people can put down roots and build high quality lives. We deserve a leader who will show up, speak out, and stand for the community. A better future is possible. Let’s build it together!
Let me serve YOU on the city council.
Do you live in my district?
South San Francisco votes for city councilmembers by district instead of citywide.
If you live in District 3, I am your candidate to be your next elected representative to bring your message to the forefront.
